My Watch

Early this week I came across this article in the NYT titled "Apple's Watch is Smarter, but My Casio Keeps Getting the Job Done". The article by Jeff Sommer was about the F-91W Casio Watch, the same watch I wear on my wrist. It described the rise of the elegant and sleek Apple Watch, but for the author the Casio was still the preferred choice with its simple and modest features.
I actually left a comment on the article which I am proud to say received 59 Recommend which has been my highest count to date in my foray into NYT comment section stardom. Here is that comment:
"I couldn’t agree more. The Casio watch does everything I need. It has an alarm, stop watch, and the time. I couldn’t ask for anything more. My watch band recently broke after 10 years of hard use. I will be replacing it and look forward to the next 10 years with my wonder watch. I am a college student going into finance and I see so many peers wearing shiny, bulky watches. The 10$ underdog Casio dazzles much more. It shows modesty and precision and I am proud to wear it on my wrist."
I bought my Casio was I was 10 at Lord and Taylor ( My moms favorite store) and it has served me through a majority of my life. The watch is one of my favorite possessions. It's modestly simple and it does the job. This is something that many tech products for me fail to accomplish. I had an Apple Watch for a little bit and I quickly grew tired of it. It was just a distraction. Not to mention after a year it became obsolete with the introduction of the next series. Apple has gotten flak for a policy of slowing down processing speeds on older products in an attempt to get people to upgrade. I love technology, I just wish it could last sometimes.
As someone who is looking at careers in finance, the Casio fit me perfectly. So many of my peers wear large metal watches. They are bulky and honestly quite intimidating. It screams, "yes, I am a finance bro and yes, I do love money". That is not what companies are looking for ( Or I hope that not what they are looking ) and so that's why my Casio is worn confidently on my wrist.
